How solar works
Solar panel are made out of photovoltaic cells, when light hits these cells an electric current is created.
The greater the intensity of light, the greater amount of electricity created. The electricity is created as direct current (DC). It then passes through an inverter to convert into alternating current (AC) which is the form of electricity used by homes and businesses, distributed by the National Grid transmission and distribution networks. In 2021, solar generated enough electricity in the UK to power over four million homes.
Even when there are low levels of light, the solar installation will still be able to generate electricity.
The Oakley Solar installation will be made up of photovoltaic solar arrays alongside inverters and transformers.
