Help Leicestershire tackle the
climate emergency

Solar energy is one of the most cost-effective ways to reach net zero carbon emissions.

Endurance Energy has submitted a planning application for Oakley Solar Farm to Charnwood Borough Council and North West Leicestershire District Council. The plans will generate enough green energy to sustainably power the equivalent of 15,000 homes and help to deliver both local and national targets to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Endurance Energy is proposing a new solar farm situated between the villages of Long Whatton and Hathern to:

Provide enough green energy to meet the annual energy needs of 15,000 homes

Help deliver on local and national targets to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050

Deliver a net gain in biodiversity through creating new wildflower meadows and restoring historic ponds

Climate change

We are in the midst of a climate crisis. CO2 levels have increased by more than 40% since the start of the industrial revolution and the biggest driver behind this increase is the burning of fossil fuels.

The UK has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and the delivery of new renewable energy is key to meeting that goal. These plans will generate enough green energy to meet the annual needs of 15,000 homes.

Biodiversity

The plans include delivering a biodiversity net gain on site. Endurance Energy has engaged with local wildlife groups and produced plans to create new wildflower meadows and restore historic ponds. These efforts will create new habitats to allow local wildlife to thrive on the site.

Community fund

Encouraging more sustainable energy initiatives is a key goal for Endurance Energy. The plans include the creation of a Community Fund that will allow the local community to secure funding to deliver sustainable initiatives that benefit local people.
